I got the new Wagram compilation « Electro Swing 6 » Mixed by Bart & Baker in my mailbox this morning. The french duo brings you 23 Electro Swing tracks.
Let’s hit play and trip through the selection…
Ritz by Diego Sanchez remixed by Freddy Gonzales (3rd track on the compilation) is a Tech House banger released in 2011. The modern sound of Swing House in combination with a nice accordion playing all along the way.
A bit outdated but still sounding awesome! I like it so much is Make my Music by Emanuel Kosh (12nd position). Released in 2010 this Electro House track delivers a delicious Swing mood and deserve to be playlisted here.
Stranger Danger surprises us one more time with Thug Swinga (16th position). A powerfull Jackin House tune you can listen to again and again! So groovy…
The Swing Soul version of Crazy In Love by Swing Republic (5th position) is quite something. Klischée with Tin Tin (11st position) is a fantastic track. Always sets the dancefloor on fire. Tested and approved!
Check out Looking Like This by Lyre Le Temps. The french touch of Electro Swing?
I really want to insist on 2 tracks : the first by Dirty Honkers: Oh Doctor ! (8th position). What a track! Refreshing! The second track I didn’t know before this morning is a cover of Cabaret by Jewdyssee. It is certainly one of the most innovative sound on the compilation. Simply love it!
On the 20th position you can listen to La Calatrava by Parov Stelar Trio. It’s not my favourite from their excellent album The Invisible Girl but some will like it for sure…
A special mention to Smokey Joe & The Kid for their fantastic track: Evening (22nd position) for bringing some broken beats to this compilation mainly dominated by 4 to the floor beats. It is certainly refreshing and shows how versatile the “Electro Swing” scene can be!
Also check the wobbling broken swing break style by Mc Mash Clan feat. Kate Mullins (23rd position) break ya neck!
It’s to say that nearly half of the tracks selected are Remixes. It is quite a trend reflecting what the scene is today: take it, slice it, mash it up and remix it!
Here are the Remixes I recommend for you :
Ballroom Breakers by Savages Y Suefo remixed by Dunkelbunt (1st track of the compilation). I’m already a fan of the original track and I consider Dunkelbunt one of the most creative artist I know. I will surely spin that one. This really is what you expect from a good remix. Check it out!
Have you heard the famous Thrift Shop by Scott Bradlee & Post Modern Jukebox?
A great track melting pop music with swing music of today… The Bart & Baker remix version nearly hits a million play on YouTube (9th position on the compilation). The remix is very smart, doesn’t bang hard… How to get people dance with smooth beats!
I’m glad to see The Segment poping up here. Coming from Tel Aviv the band, signed on Etage Noir (Parov Stelar’s Label) is for sure a project you should follow closely. Check Out their Doing The Jive Remix by Bart & Baker (19th position)
Other great remixes to name few are Soundnomaden remixing Gangsterlove a tune by Alice Francis (4th position), the magnificent Skeewiff remixing Baby don’t you cry by Bart & Baker with Philou as a guest (7th position). A good surprise is Umami & Alle Farben remixing together La Rochelle Band with the excellent Burning in my Soul (13rd position) and 2 Swing House specialists among the best DJ Mibor and Tavo remixing The Josephine Baker Allstars featuring Nicolle Rochelle and Kitten & The Hip (14th and 15th position)
A small word by Bart & Baker about this compilation :
It’s now the 6th installation of this successful serie of compilations. We have had the chance to select the episode 3 to 6 and when we had to select the new one, we simply had too many good tracks around (actually 50 tracks were pre-selected and for contractual or other issues, only 23 were kept at the end). The other reason we had so much music to look at this year is that the Electro Swing movement is now melted into so many different music segments. Pop, lounge, hip hop, house, dubstep… Simply too many to name them all. We have tried to keep a fair balance between traditional and innovative, vocal and instrumental, original and cover tunes. Production quality is the common point between all the tracks and the mixed Cd had to be listened quiet at home or loud in the car or in Clubs and Parties. The feedback of the community has already been overhelming and thanks to blogs like electro-swing.com there will still be some good source of inspiration for future projects.
